The History of Waldsassen Abbey since its Foundation to 1420 in Relation to Rulers of Bohemia and to the Cistercian Order

Annotation/Abstract: This bachelor thesis deals with the history and the development of cistercian abbey in Waldsassen since its origin in 1133 to 1420. This year is upper time limit of this thesis. This thesis should cover the reasons of foundation of this monastery, its imfluence, power in the Cheb region and his financial and economic relations and also changes inside monastic community. Important are social relations among particular members of the convent, especially part of the abbot like director of the monastery is pointed out. Author attempted to show connections of abbey in politics and participation off its members in the forming of history of Central Europe. Although Waldsassen was active in the Holy Roman Empire and developed its relations with the territories of Empire (Bavaria, Upper Palatinate, Egerland), it had the connections to the lands of the Crown of Bohemia and their rulers as well. It is the reason, why the most extensive chapter of this thesis is the fourth one about own history of abbey, the fifth one describes the relations of monastery with the czech sovereigns, but the connections of rulers of lands of the Crown of Bohemia were usually more feeble than these with the rulers of Roman empire.

Father of the Western Monasticism St. Benedict of Nursia

Summary: OTEC ZÁPADNÍHO MNIŠSTVÍ BENEDIKT Z NURSIE FATHER OF WESTERN MONASTICISM ST. BENEDICT OF NURSIA TEREZIE VALOVÁ The thesis deals with the "father of western monasticism" Benedict of Nursia. The introductory part describes the period, which preceded Benedict's time and it briefly shows early incentives that led to origin of Christian monasticism. The basis was ascetic practice applied by individuals or groups outside Christian community that got among Christians in early church fast and anchored in originating monasticism as an important aspect of monastic way of life. The key part of the thesis is Benedict's life, witness of which Pope Gregory I wrote in his Dialogues in the 6th century. The thesis describes a part of legendary Gregory's stories of Benedict's life that played a decisive role in Benedict's life journey and show a man who was religious, strong in virtues, open in love, devoted to God and imbued with the spirit of all the just. The final part of the thesis gets to Benedict's legacy that Benedict and it refers to the rarity of his spirituality, which reflected even in ordinary aspects of human life and even today it can say a lot not only to competent servants of God among monks but also to persons outside such groups and it can also serve as inspiration for secular world. This master thesis deals with the history of Kladruby's monastery, about it's establishment and development during centuries. Further, it deals with the change of lifestyle in the monastery, as well as outside of it. This thesis highlights the outstanding architectural beauty of the Baroque Gothic style of Czech architects Jan Blažej Santini Aichel and Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer.

Norbertin Monastery in Zábrdovice in the Middle Ages

The thesis describes the origins of Norbertines in Brno and establishing of a monastery in Zábrdovice. Author focuses on the medieval stage of the monastery's history. Part of the work is also a reference to the pilgrimage site of Křtiny, whose history is connected with the monastery in Zábrdovice and whose name appears soon after the foundation of the monastery.

Abbey gravestones in the cloister Vyšší Brod

This thesis is devoted to abbatial tombstones, which are located in the monastery Vyšší Brod. The criterium of the selection of this abbatial tombstones was the state of conservation of the gravestones allowing their historical, epigraphic and art processing between 1463 1695. The work is developed and based on the methodology by PhDr. Jiří Roháček, PhD. It also includes an outline of the historical background of the Cistercian order also contains a history of this monastery. The aim of this work is to create a detailed treatise processing abbey tombstones.

Benedict's Book - Monastic Rule of Western

Summary: The thesis focuses on a piece of work in the form of a monastic rule which considerably influenced the whole Christian world, significantly contributed to the formation of spirituality of monastic communities, shaped the European culture and has much to say even today. The rule derives its name from its author, St. Benedict of Nursia. Given the considerable impact of his work on shaping the subsequent history of monasticism, St. Benedict is rightly called the Father of Western Monasticism. The first part introduces the Rule of Saint Benedict (Regula Benedicti). It refers to the period of its creation when certain common foundations of monastic life existed but lacked any solid anchoring. Despite the existence of other monastic rules, the Rule of Saint Benedict became the leading one thanks to its clarity and brevity. The second part deals with the Rule of the Master (Regula Magistri), an anonymous collection of monastic precepts which played a significant role as a source material for the Rule of Saint Benedict. St. Benedict took a large number of rules from it while he edited some of the original rules and intentionally omitted others. History of the Monastery Kladruby

The significant, cultural heritage, Kladruby's monastery lies n Tachovon in the Western part of the Czech republic. It lies between Pilsen and Tachov, specifically, Thirty kilometres west from Pilsen and five kilometres south from Stříbro. The history of the township and monastery is closely bound. The middle ages brought prosperity and rise to both of them.To this rise of Kladruby contributed it's great place by the Norimberská stezka and the discovery of silver ore nearby. Thanks to this, in 1230, it was raised by Václav I. to township. With this Kladruby gained the rights of a town ( e.g. The right to organize markets,the right to perform Criminal Law and the right to brew) as one of the first seven town in the Czech republic. Because of the wealth from silver mining, a mining settlement Stříbro was establishes, in the late twelfth century. The Benedictine monastery was established, by Vladislav I. of Přemyslid dynasty, in 1115. He himself is buried there as one of few Czech princes, who are not buried in Prague. Between the 12. And 13.
